I work with wood like a painter works with oils and a sculptor works with stone.

When you first see my art, you may think it's a painting, that the lines and shapes are painted on the wood. However, what you see is, in fact, the natural colors of the wood itself. Every color and shade is a separate piece of wood. I do not use stains or dyes. It's difficult to understand how all this works together and the impact it has without seeing it in person.

From a distance, you see lines, shapes, colors, deep contours and shadows. The lines and shapes seem two dimensional, as if in a painting, but as you move from side to side, the lines and shapes flow over the contours, increasing movement in the composition.
When a light source moves, the shadows on the piece move and become dramatic. At night, lights set at a low angle across the surface accentuate the shadows. These changing features give my art life.
As you approach, shallow contours, which you don't notice from a distance, appear like swells on a lake.
You can and should touch this art to feel the smooth undulating surface of the wood. You can do that because the surface is finished like fine furniture making it durable and easy to maintain.
These 2210various aspects and effects in my art create works that are unlike anything you have seen.

I began experimenting and developing the techniques I use in my art in 1996. My techniques include joining boards along curves, inserting solid wood strips into curved cuts, creating designs of pegs which I make from recycled or reclaimed wood, inserting solid wood into circular cuts, carving the surface and several other techniques I have developed over the years.
